You gotta LOVE catching REDFISH
Fly Fishermen Welcome!
|
Welcome to BenAlderman.comAs a full-time inshore guide in Charleston since 1996, I have had the pleasure to entertain thousands of guests of all skill levels and I still LOVE what I do. Whether you enjoy fly fishing, spin, or bait, I'll work hard to assure you accomplish your angling goals and most importantly have FUN.
Redfish are my favorite and my specialty, but many other seasonal species are available throughout the year. Summer charters are great for families as the flats and beaches are teeming with sharks, ladyfish, trout, flounder and many other toothy critters sure to keep the kid's interest peaked. The fall and winter are my favorite time of the year, as the fish school up and the water gets clear. One of the great things about inshore fishing the SC Lowcountry is you never get bored; the fishing tactics change with the seasons, fronts, and tides. Hiring an experienced guide gives you the best chance to put all the variables together for the trip of a lifetime. I run my inshore fly fishing and light tackle charters out of the Isle of Palms Marina. My jet dock is right in front of Islander 71 restaurant, next door to the Marina Outpost. Charter times are usually determined by the tides, but an early morning start is usually the norm. 28 years in the inshore fishing charter business has mellowed me and taught me a great deal; not only about how to catch more fish, but how to tailor my trips to the wishes of my anglers. If you're a hard core fly fisherman, I've been one myself for a long time and I know just how to position you for productive opportunities. I can help you improve your cast if you like, or I can shut up and let you do your thing. I'm a redfish tournament angler as well, so tossing artificials with spinning and casting rods are right up my alley. You don't fish as long as I have, without mastering the art of bait fishing. If keeping the rods bent on the bait du jour is more your style, I'll do my best to send you home with sore wrists from reeling them all in! I loved doing things with my dad, so father-son (and the occasional daddy-daughter) trips, are my favorite. You can't beat making memories with your kids on the water! Spring and Summer brings great variety, from tailing redfish in the grass on the fly, to family outings catching sharks and whatever else is biting. Most trips depart early in the morning to beat the heat, but afternoon and evening trips are also productive. Book your trip today for best availability. Video Blog "100 Fish Hole!"
|
Back in 1998, I found a honey-hole way back up in a creek; hundreds of redfish trapped in a 30 foot wide bend in a mostly 10 foot wide creek. It actually took me about a month to get to the actual hole after my first trip to that creek. I was scouting one day by myself, going up random creeks until I either ran out of water and turned around, or found fish. I caught a nice one belly crawling and heard a ruckus way back in the marsh that sounded like a dolphin crashing bait. I couldn't get back to the source of all the commotion then, but I'd be back. As the tides got higher over the next few weeks, I took clients further and further up the creek, catching fish in every bend. When I finally got to the hole with a client, it was INSANE! Three hours and 111 big reds later, on artificial, fly, bait, WHATEVER, those fish ate it as soon as it hit the water. The last fish was 12 lbs and we left them biting! It lasted for a year or two, less fish each trip, until the fish had had enough and relocated. I checked back regularly for 10 years, only to find a few at a time until... A couple years ago I was throwing the cast net near the creek and heard them up in the marsh like way back when. Here's a video from a day with my buddy Sam Moore and his very good fly fishing client in 100 Fish Hole. Sam's first redfish on the fly EVER will be tough to beat! The second video is my son Geer's big one in Hundred Fish Hole Creek. He was about 10 at the time and determined to land this SLOB! My guests are always astounded at the size and strength of the reds way back in the marsh. Come see it for yourself! Third is some recent drone footage of a huge school of reds in a small creek up in the marsh. Come join me and I might take you there! Last one is a fish on the fly with one of my oldest and dearest friends. 50 year friends doing what they love. |
I also have a long and storied tournament career, chasing redfish from North Carolina to Texas and all states in between. From the glory days of the O'Boy Oberto Redfish Cup on ESPN to today's Power-Pole National Redfish Tour and Professional Redfish League, I've always enjoy the competition and camaraderie fishing against my fellow pros. 2024 was a great year for Team Power-Pole with a win in the East Coast Go-Live and a 5th place finish for team of the year out of 350 competing teams. My partner, Mikey Cogan and I also finished 1st and 2nd in the Power-Pole National Redfish Tour One-Man Go live! I'm always on the lookout for new sponsors to represent in tournaments and every day in my charter business. If your company is looking for exposure in the inshore saltwater fishing industry, I'm your man. Contact me at bgalderman3@gmail.com for more information.
